Update: The Town of Lansing is drafting a ban on data centers! Sustainable Finger Lakes is proud to have helped organize efforts with FLX Strong – composed of the many grassroots groups and individuals who have been involved in this fight for 14 months. We were mighty proud of the people of Lansing and folks around the lake who came to speak out in favor of a ban on data centers in their town. The Town Board discussed the input of about 40 speakers and agreed that a ban would be the most cost effective and protective step to take, ordering the town attorney to draft a ban ordinance for their review.
There will be a public hearing and board vote sometime this fall. As we await next steps, we will continue to educate ourselves and the community on some of the issues that speakers last night raised, such as how to alleviate strain on the electric grid.
