In 2024, Caleb Thomas noticed how everyday cleaning products contribute to environmental degradation and expose our bodies to microplastics. Thomas recalled, “I started to look at some of the leading laundry detergents and noticed how dyes can negatively impact our bodies […] our skin just absorbs everything we put on it, including what is on/in our clothes.”
In 2025, Thomas founded Clear Future. Based in Watkins Glen, Clear Future provides and delivers plant-based cleaning products to Finger Lakes-based businesses, hotels, and residences. According to Thomas, “it was important for us [the Clear Future team] to offer cleaning products that won’t negatively impact our customers.” Customers within Clear Future’s geographic scope can order their cleaning products on the company’s website, choosing from same-day or 1-2 day delivery options. When customers run out of cleaning products, a Clear Future staff member will visit the customer’s home to replace their products.
“A lot of our customers really enjoy the convenience with the ordering process,” Thomas stated, “One of our biggest clients is the Benjamin Hotel, and their guests tend to really love our products […] generally, our customers are surprised by our products’ qualities. Many of them say they [Clear Future’s products] clean as well as some of the leading brands.”
Thomas hoped to expand his business in the coming years, sharing the power of sustainable consumption across the Finger Lakes region. Thomas said, “I would also love to establish more partnerships with local hotels, universities, and schools, since they all tend to use a lot of plastic.”
