Black Walnuts are an important species native to New York State, and Black Squirrel Farm aims to keep them from going to waste. These trees are useful for more than just lumber – they are nutritional foods for both humans and animals and are also important for ecosystem health.
In 2022, Black Squirrel Farms became the first 20-C licensed facility processing black walnuts in New York State. They sell black walnuts and nutshell products, and encourage others to gather their unused walnuts and shells and drop them off at their sites.
In addition to their walnut collection and processing, Black Squirrel Farms is also committed to restoring ecological integrity in their land by removing invasive species and reintroducing native species to their property.
