Lead in drinking water threatens the health and well-being of many in our Great Lakes region and across the nation. Last year, much-needed improvements to the federal lead in drinking water rule were finalized with the advocacy of people like you – but a bill (House Joint Resolution 18) introduced this month has one goal: roll back this drinking water rule that reduces lead contamination in our water.
If passed, this resolution would rescind the new rule that protects millions of American families from lead poisoning by lowering the concentration of lead in drinking water at which governments take action, requiring the removal of all lead service lines within 10 years, and increasing public notification requirements.
Now, our House representatives are considering a motion to reject these new protections and keep lead in our drinking water.
