In April 2023, Ash Ferlito and Brandon Hoak received a Neighborhood Mini-Grant from Sustainable Finger Lakes (SFLX) to expand their marshy garden using native seeds from the Finger Lakes Native Plant Society. Now in its second year, the garden is thriving with biodiversity, attracting species like green frogs and elderberry plants! 🐸🍃
As part of the Cornell Environment and Sustainability Colloquium, they hosted an on-site planting workshop and artist talk, sharing how this project connects to their other art and ecological efforts. With the help of friends and volunteers during weekly gardening sessions, the garden flourished!
Recently, they celebrated with an End of Season (Spooky) Celebration 🎃, reflecting on the growth, wildlife sightings, and teamwork that made this year so special.
This site is a key part of the Tompkins Pollinator Pathway project, which aims to create connected habitats to support insect populations. They are actively monitoring insect and bird species visiting the garden, with so many exciting developments this year!
