See this message below from the Sierra Club Finger Lakes Group:
On behalf of the Sierra Club Finger Lakes Group, we invite you to a vitally important rally on Earth Day, Saturday April 22nd at 11:00 in Waterloo, NY. The Seneca Meadows Landfill there is scheduled to close in 2025, but its owners have applied to enlarge it and keep it open until 2040. The landfill has multiple issues, including PFAS contamination, methane releases, odors, and fires. Seneca Lake Guardian is sponsoring this Earth Day rally at Waterloo Container ( 2311 NY-414, Waterloo, NY 13165) which is right across the street from the landfill, and we need a HUGE turnout. ABC News and other media outlets will be covering this rally.
We need you, and all of your friends who care about protecting our clean air and water to turn out for this important event. We’ll have some great speakers, and it won’t take more than 45 minutes of your time.
Annie Burns of the famous Burns Sisters will be singing with Doug Robinson and Harry Aceto starting at 11:00 am! Local farmers are donating food to be prepared by regional chef Peggy Aker (of Macro Mama’s!) The important time change to 11:00 start with music is key. We’ll have a great lineup of speakers starting around 11:30.
This is our opportunity to demonstrate on a national level our opposition to Seneca Meadows operating a day more than its already set closure date in 2025.
Mark your calendar and commit to showing up in force for Earth Day! RSVP here so we know to expect you.
