The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Climate Smart Communities Grant program has awarded a $851,450 grant to GO ITHACA, a pilot program to incentivize alternative transportation methods, such as walking, biking, and bus rides. The primary goal of this program is to make Ithaca more accessible without a car, and this grant will allow GO ITHACA to expand from downtown to other areas of Ithaca and Lansing. Expanding the GO ITHACA program will be one way to reduce citywide vehicle emissions, which will further the goals of the Ithaca Green New Deal.
