Greenidge Generation has applied for a Department of Environmental Conservation permit to begin a new dredging project, which will extract sediment from Seneca Lake to make space for a wedge-wire screen assembly installation. This project poses a high risk of mercury, PCBs, pesticides, and other toxic chemicals contaminating the lake. However, the DEC has neglected to take these risks into account, as they are currently in the process of fast-tracking the approval of Greenidge’s permit application.
