This bill will establish a 2-year moratorium on air permits for fossil fuel plants that power cryptocurrency mining, and requires an environmental review of proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining. This bill does not ban crypto mining, nor does it prevent anyone from buying, selling, trading, or holding cryptocurrencies. Governor Hochul has an obligation to ensure New York’s climate mandates are met – extending the life of fossil fuel power plants for private crypto profit takes us in the opposite direction. Gov. Hochul must stand up to the crypto and fossil fuel companies who want to pollute for profit and sign this bill into law now. Thank you.”
