Greenidge Generation’s proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining facility located in Dresden, NY is currently under review by the NYSDEC. They are not in compliance with NY State’s Climate Law, and how DEC rules on this facility sets a precedent for how other power plants in New York will fall.
With 30 other power plants up for grabs by this energy-intensive industry, Greenidge is a test case for New York’s other power plants.
The rest of the country, and world, is watching to see how New York State handles this environmental threat. If we want to meet our bold and necessary climate goals, we must curb this industry from burning more fossil fuels in the midst of our climate crisis.
The period to submit comments to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) on the climate busting air emissions at the proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining plant, Greenidge Generation, closes on November 19th. Please submit a comment to the NYSDEC by the November 19th deadline. Here is a sample letter you can submit. You can also make a call to Governor Hochul to express your concerns via this hotline: 866-942-5138. Thank you for your support!
