How do you envision the future? What could a Green New Deal do for you?
Tonight from 6-7 PM on Zoom, join the new City of Ithaca Sustainability Director Luis Aguirre Torres and his colleagues for a brief information session on a new project, called 1,000 Conversations About Our Future.
The idea is very simple:
You and your peers are invited to join the conversation. Either in an organized fashion or not, you can be part of this. It is for everybody to participate.
For an entire year, we plan to just talk and listen. We plan to engage, energize, and immerse ourselves in our collective vision of the future. We want to see the world through each other’s eyes so we can understand what matters to each one of us, and through that, what matters most to our entire community. 1,000 Conversations About our Future really means a conversation with the whole community. Invite everyone. We need to hear each other and think together.
Here is how you can participate:
- Invite your people to a conversation about the future. Improvise an event or simply have a conversation with your friends, your boss, your neighbors, teachers, nurses, mail delivery person, waitress, or people on the street. Do it with words, music, sign language, images, art – anything that helps you express and share with each other what the future, this community, and a sustainable climate mean to you. Prompts will be provided. Record your conversation (with everybody’s permission) and send it to . Or just record yourself talking. We are listening.
- At the end of the year, we plan to publish a book and make a movie about 1,000 Conversations About Our Future. Come out on June 22nd for a big, public, in-person launch on the Commons.
