Last December, due to grassroots pressure from Divest NY and their allies, Comptroller DiNapoli agreed to divest the state’s Common Retirement Fund (CRF) from fossil fuels. The CRF completed divestment from coal last July, from Tar Sands last week and will begin work on divesting from fracking. But, the NYS Teachers’s Retirement System (NYSTRS) still has billions in fossil fuel investments. Not only have they shown no interest in divestment, but they have INCREASED their investments in dirty coal over last year.
This is outrageous!
Please help us divest NYSTRS – Here’s what you can do:

We know that the burning of fossil fuels is fueling the climate crisis. Floods, superstorms, windstorms, forest fires, droughts, rising oceans are destroying lives and communities and are threatening our food supply. Students, afraid for their future are calling for climate action. As the world transitions to a renewable energy economy, the value of fossil fuel stocks are crashing. Continued investment in a dying industry is putting the financial stability of the teacher’s pension fund at risk.
Teachers must demand that NYSTRS DIVESTS to save their pension and to save the planet.
