Kal Awad and Sam Walker opened State Bakery and Smokehouse last July on Route 89 in the small Seneca County hamlet of Canoga. Even during a pandemic, it’s proven to be quite the hit! Some of their offerings include sourdough bread, breakfast sandwiches on biscuits, pastries (including Walker’s famous Cruffins – muffins made from croissant dough), crab pies and barbecue of all kinds — pulled pork, brisket, chicken and sausage. See the complete menu here.
As they reopen this coming Friday for the warmer months, they will be sourcing local fruits and veggies, so local farmers should check them out! In this Finger Lakes Times article, Awad noted, “It’s a chef’s dream to come somewhere where there are so many fruits and vegetables. It’s just perfect.” We think it’s perfect that this talented team has found a home here in the Finger Lakes! Their customers seem to be quite thrilled as well. Read Kal and Sam’s full story here.
