Will you help get 100 emails to the Public Service Commission (PSC) today? This would help in the efforts to head off a flurry of utility shutoffs slated to start next week.
New York’s utility shutoff moratorium ends on March 28, and word is that the utilities are getting ready to start shutoffs on Monday, March 29. It’s important for the PSC to tell the utilities NOT TO DISCONNECT ANYONE.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE IN DANGER OF HAVING YOUR UTILITIES SHUT OFF:
- Call your electric, gas, water and telephone providers and request an affordable deferred payment agreement and a 180 day “grace period.”
WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD DO:
- Email Jeanne Vaughns, who handles Commissioner Howard’s communications at je************@dp*.gov
- Send this message: “Commissioner Howard should order all utilities and all water companies not to conduct any shutoffs for non-payment before the legislature implements a new shutoff moratorium. Electricity, heat, water, and telecommunications aren’t luxuries; they are basic necessities. It’s important for the Public Service Commission to tell the utilities not to disconnect anyone.” Use this template and/or add your own personal statements/opinions on the matter!
