A message from the Seneca Falls Environmental Action Committee:
Seneca Meadows Landfill in Waterloo has applied for an expansion permit with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. If approved, this would allow Seneca Meadows to operate for an additional 15 years, continuing to dump 6,000 tons of garbage a day until 2040. We must be not allow this to happen.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Email the Seneca Falls Town Council to tell them you support LL3 which closes Seneca Meadows in 2025. Please tell your friends and family to do the same. Council members:
Supervisor Ferrara mf******@se*********.com
Councilwoman Dyson dd****@se*********.com
Councilman DeLelys dd******@se*********.com
Councilman Avery da****@se*********.com
Councilman Churchill sc********@se*********.com
2. Be prepared to attend and/or speak at the upcoming DEC Public Hearing against any expansion permit for Seneca Meadows. A date has not yet been determined for this, but we expect it to be this spring or summer (You can prep by reading Peter Mantius’ comprehensive article, “STINKING IT UP — Garbage, Methane and Foul Politics in Seneca Falls” on WaterFront, which details the complexities of this situation).
3. Make sure you and your family members are registered to vote in the upcoming 2021 local elections. Both Doug Avery and Dave DeLelys will be up for re-election, and we need them to win in order to preserve LL3. Email Valerie Sandlas from the Seneca Falls Environmental Action Committee at vs******@ic****.com if you’d like assistance with voter registration. Which leads to…..
4. Vote for Avery and DeLelys!
Let’s stay united in our efforts and we can close Seneca Meadows in 2025!
